The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

This fantastic story begins when the main character is born in India. She is an undesired daughter because her parents wanted a boy. But she had amazing powers that made her able to heal serious disease and change the feelings of the people. A group of pirates kidnapped her for taking advantage of her powers. She achieved to escape from pirates and arrives to an island where she is taught by the “Old One”. There, she learned to use spices for healing people and bringing good luck to them. At the end of the teaching, the Old One names her Tilo and then she went to store into another body. She knows all the lives of her customers and she knows what they needed for become happier and healthy. She fell in love with a handsome American boy. During the story she is solving the problems of her customers. But she broke the rules that she had accepted when she became a Mistress of Spices. Finally, a huge earthquake destroyed her store and went to the Paradise of Spices where there, there are all the Mistresses of Spices.

This story made me feel identified because it makes me remember when I was in love, and the difficulties you come across with.
